The Australian second-row is rated “unlikely” to play against Salford Red Devils on Thursday after suffering a problem during Friday’s season-opening win at Widnes Vikings.

However, on former Manly star Symonds, Stone said: “He’s a bit doubtful. He’s having his knee scanned and there possibly might even be an arthroscope involved.

“We’ll see what it says. He locked his knee up and something irritated him in there.

“He had an issue with the other knee at end of last season and it’s unfortunate for Tom as he’s worked hard with the medical team to get fit.

“I though his first half last week was pretty impressive, which is testament to his work-ethic to get right.”

Salford lost 26-16 at home to champions Wigan Warriors on Saturday, but showed signs of character having been 26-0 down at the break.

Stone said: “I went to have a look there and Wigan were pretty clinical.

“The score didn’t reflect the difference between the teams; Wigan were really good with their execution while Salford were a little rusty.

“But I still think they’re a dangerous team and can score points while you’ll find most sides that lost last week will be fairly desperate to get their first win on the board this time around.

“We’ve got some improvement in us, too, though, for sure.”

Castleford Tigers’ hooker Paul McShane has been charged with a Grade B dangerous throw on Leigh Centurions’ Gareth Hock.

The former Wakefield Trinity player has the option of an early guilty plea.
