Toronto Wolfpack proposal 'not credible', insists Wakefield Trinity chairman John Minards

Trinity are believed to be one of eight clubs who voted against re-admitting the Canadian club back into Super League on Monday, with one abstention and four parties - three clubs and the RFL - in favour of the Wolfpack's bid to re-join the competition.

Featherstone Rovers chairman Mark Campbell hit out at the decision on Tuesday morning, accusing Super League of self-interest.

However, Minards has argued that the proposal put forward by prospective owner Carlo LiVolsi was simply not credible and has defended the decision by Trinity to vote down the proposal.

"The LiVolsi proposals were considered objectively by the SLE (Super League Europe) board," Minards said on social media.

"They had to be financially robust, fair to those impacted by the demise of the previous regime, as well as clubs going forward. They weren’t.

"Wakefield Trinity are not anti-expansion but this proposal was not credible."

A meeting of Super League clubs will take place today to decide on how many teams will make up the 2021 competition.
