Two red cards, no bans: Wakefield Trinity forward Matty Storton escapes suspension again

Wakefield Trinity back-rower Matty Storton will not serve a suspension after his red card against Castleford Tigers.

The forward received his marching orders midway through the first half for a high tackle on Alex Mellor, leaving Daryl Powell's team down to 12 men for the best part of an hour.

Wakefield defied the dismissal to cruise to a remarkable 52-14 victory and now have Storton available for this weekend's trip to Catalans Dragons in a welcome boost for the Super League title hopefuls.

The 27-year-old was charged with a Grade C offence by the match review panel, which carries a fine but no suspension.

It is the second time Storton has avoided a ban following a red card. He was also dismissed against former club Hull KR last month but a fine was the extent of his punishment on that occasion too.

No bans were issued following a review of round 20.

York Knights veteran Paul McShane, Bradford Bulls forward Phoenix Steinwede and Leeds Rhinos youngster Ben Littlewood were among the other players fined.

Littlewood escaped punishment for another incident in Sunday's win over Bradford, while Rhinos team-mates James McDonnell and Brodie Croft also avoided further action for 'dangerous contact' offences.
