Two-try Thackeray is key to Dewsbury’s win

ANTHONY THACKERAY scored two tries as Dewsbury Rams’ first-half masterclass secured their win over North Wales Crusaders.

Glenn Morrison’s side were 32-12 ahead by the break after proving too powerful and elusive for their Welsh opponents.

Ex-Hull FC half-back Thackeray was to the fore starting the scoring spree with his first try after only five minutes, improved by Jordan Grayston.

Tommy Johnson replied for the visitors and levelled with the first of his three conversions, before Scott Hale gave Dewsbury the edge again with a try that Grayson converted.

Austin Buchanan added a third try in the 19th minute and, though the Crusaders refused to go away with Craig Ashall going over for another converted effort, they could not deal with their hosts’ attacking class.

Thackeray waltzed over for his second try before stand-off Kieran Hyde dummied over.

To rub things in, Grayston not only maintained his 100 per cent record with the booted conversions but slotted a penalty, too, just before interval.

After that points bonanza, the second period was a comparative pedestrian affair. Crusaders finally sorted their defensive issues out and were not breached again until Callan Beckett scored with just eight minutes to go.

The visitors were rewarded when Rob Massam completed the scoring with a try.
