Wakefield Trinity v Leeds Rhinos: Wakefield chief Chris Chester keen to give others a chance

WAKEFIELD Trinity head coach Chris Chester is set to ring the changes as he looks for a fourth win in just 11 days.

They host Leeds Rhinos tomorrow having beaten the same opponents 30-6 at St Helens on Thursday.

However, Chester is wary of the increasing workload on his players but also of giving some of his younger players an opportunity to shine.

England duo Reece Lyne and Tom Johnstone have dropped out of the 21-man squad along with full-back Max Jowitt - who scored a hat-trick against Leeds - and centre Bill Tupou.

Youngsters Jack Croft, Lee Kershaw, Yusuf Aydin, Connor Bailey and Harry Bowes are all hoping to get a chance to come in and show what they can do.

Chester said: “I want to try and give everybody a game before the end of the year.

“If the rumours are right and we will be finishing the season this weekend, it is important we give everybody a run out on Sunday.”

Whoever plays, Chester admits confidence is high in his squad following their stunning turn around in form.

Wakefield had lost 10 successive games but have now beaten Huddersfield Giants, Hull KR and Challenge Cup winners Leeds in a little over a week.

Explaining what has been key to the improvement, Chester explained: “These guys have gone through the mill.

“When your confidence is down you are looking at what you are doing in training.

“But the best weeks have been the last two when we’ve had everybody back in there training.

“They have responded really well. The key message is to go out and play, do everything with energy and a smile on our face.”

Leeds have made changes, too, with young prop Tom Holroyd out for the rest of the season as he goes in for surgery on a long-running wrist injury.
