WATCH: Huddersfield Giants boss hails "sensational" Jake Wardle

Interim Huddersfield Giants head coach Luke Robinson called Jake Wardle “absolutely sensational” as the brilliant young centre helped spark a comeback win against Castleford Tigers.

The Fartowners were trailing 19-12 approaching the hour mark but the 21-year-old Huddersfield-born centre came up with a number of stunning plays to help turn things around for a 31-19 success.

Alongside captain Aidan Sezer, Wardle inspired the fightback with his searing runs, setting up a try for Sezer having already scored a fine solo effort himself before helping Jermaine McGillvary complete his hat-trick at the death.

“Jake showed why there was NRL interest all over him before we managed to secure his signature,” said Robinson.

“I thought he was the best player on the field. He was absolutely sensational.

“He’s one of the most naturally gifted lads I’ve had the pleasure of being around and he’s just so good.”

The victory formed back-to-back wins for assistant Robinson since taking over last week from Simon Woolford.

Asked if it was easy, he said: “No. But I hope it lasts forever this 100 per cent record.

“It is only two games.

“We got the win but I don’t think we played that well. From the opening kick off we looked nervous and were a little dysfunctional in attack but we’ve played a lot better this year and lost games.

“I’m really proud. We showed some steel and resilience. We went 10-0 down and it would be quite easy to bring memories of the three we’ve lost by close margins but they kept fighting hard.”

Australian half-back Sezer stepped up again brilliantly just as he did in the win against Wakefield.

“He’s great and it’s testament to him as a person and player; he brings out the best in others and fills them with confidence.

“I know he missed a drop goal near the end but normally he nails them all.

“And in the last 15 minutes of the game, putting your mortgage on winning the game, you want Aidan Sezer in there like that.”
