“Either employ a referee who is going to grow a pair or have a video referee in every game so at least we know what we’re getting.

“Too much is going up. If that game isn’t on Sky, the referee has got to make those decisions himself. You’re almost dreading a Sky game. The effort was phenomenal. It was a really, really big win because of the sending off.

“I thought the red card was ridiculous. You see 10 of those tackles every week.”

Hull KR will be smarting they did not make the most of the circumstances after their rivals were a man down for so long.

But coach Tim Sheens – who had his own concerns about the obstruction rule after Adam Quinlan’s disallowed try – admitted: “The scoreboard pressure just got to our players. Everytime we got back in the game our right-edge gave up points. It’s been an ongoing problem for us.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been as frustrated in a game as what we were doing initially after they went down to 12 was working.

“The first half we played our left edge really well then went away from it.”

Danny McGuire and Shaun Lunt will be out of Monday’s game.
