Wigan Warriors suffer Covid positives but Leeds Rhinos hope Wembley spots won't be affected

AS it stands, no Leeds Rhinos players will see their Wembley places jeopardised by the Covid-19 outbreak at Wigan Warriors.

The RFL announced this morning that two Wigan players have received positive test results after displaying symptoms, and are now self-isolating as per Government guidelines.

Leeds, of course, defeated the Cherry and Whites 26-12 in Saturday's Coral Challenge Cup semi-final.

That set up a Wembley appearance against Salford Red Devils on Saturday week but, if test and trace analysis identified any Leeds players that needed to stand down, they would automatically be ruled out of the showpiece.

Of the two Wigan players who have tested positive, one was involved against Leeds but the RFL say test and trace analysis shows, fortunately, that no player from either side has to self-isolate as a result of close contacts from the game.

Nevertheless, Wigan, who have cancelled today's training session as a precaution and are due to face Warrington Wolves at Emerald Headingley on Friday, are awaiting the results of yesterday's weekly tests for Covid-19 carried out on the rest of their squad and support staff.
