Workington 36 Hunslet Hawks 16: Hunslet’s march is over after late tries

Hunslet Hawks side put up a spirited display at Derwent Park until two late tries killed off their challenge.

When David March went over six minutes into the second-half Danny Ansell’s conversion pushed Hunslet to within eight points of their hosts, and they had the momentum.

Crucially it was March who couldn’t quite take an inside pass from Ansell soon afterwards which would have put him under the posts and made life very interesting.

Danny Grimshaw dropped the kick-off on his own line and Town prop Kris Coward went over for the first of two quickfire tries. Carl Forber kicked six conversions.

Hawks centre Lee Brickwood followed-up March’s grubber for a try, before two tries from Town’s Callum Phillips and Forber.

Hunlset rallied with tries from Lee Mapals and March but Workington pulled away.

Elliott Miller broke out from his own 10-metre line and went all the way, despite Jamal Chisholm’s efforts, before Peter Lupton’s kick through saw Andy Morris get in to make the touchdown.
