Knights and Titans target league boost

Doncaster Knights put their unbeaten home record on the line when they welcome a London Scottish side chastened by a heavy defeat to promotion favourites London Irish last weekend.

Knights – the surprise package of last season’s Championship as they went all the way to the final – have their home form to thank for them sitting in fourth place after seven games this time around.

Doncaster’s director of rugby Clive Griffiths said: “We know we aren’t playing as well as we were last season – though we are playing well in periods during games – but we are still in the top four and the aim is to keep there or thereabouts until we start playing better because we know when we get it right we can go on a run.

“Scottish have had some good results away from home and had won their last three league and cup games prior to Sunday so it’s not going to be easy.

“We’ve got a good record against them in recent games and we also did the double over them last season.”

Sean Scanlon is set to make his second start of the season for the Knights with Paul Jarvis moving out to the wing.

Rotherham Titans travel to Ealing Trailfinders, a side rejuvenated by finances and third in the league.

Titans’ absentee list going into the game has not improved after Cameron Hudson and Charlie Maddison picked up injuries in their dramatic 26-24 victory over Cornish Pirates.

In total due to dual-registration recalls, injuries and suspensions, Rotherham are unable to call on 18 players this weekend.

Head coach Justin Burnell said: “We’ll need character against Ealing because they are a good side who are doing very well.

“It’s common knowledge they’ve invested heavily on recruitment during the summer and it’s obvious they’re having a big push for the play-offs this year.”
