Jones, 36, the former Wales wing, leaves Rotherham after a run of 10 consecutive losses, seven of which came in the Championship.

The last in that sequence, Saturday’s defeat at bottom club Moseley which left Rotherham just seven points above the one and only relegation place, appears to have been the last straw.

Titans chairman Nick Cragg said: “Results over the last three months have not been what we would have wished them to be and both parties have agreed that now is the time for change.

“Mark is a quality individual for whom we have the greatest respect. He has handled himself with professionalism and dignity throughout his time with us and he has stuck to his principles as to how he believes the game should be played.”

Jones said: “I would like to thank Rotherham Titans for the opportunity to coach in the Championship. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Titans and it has been a great learning experience.

“I am very content with what I have done and the way I have gone about it. I would like to thank the players and the back room staff for all their hard work.”
