Sheffield Wednesday are considering making a move for £1.8m-rated 25-year-old central defender Frederico Venancio, who made 25 appearances on loan for the Owls before heading back to Vitoria de Setubal.

The Owls have also been linked with midfield man Harrison Reed, who has been on loan at Norwich City from Southampton.

Mick McCarthy looks to have ruled himself out of the managerial vacancy at home-town Barnsley, saying he would prefer to take charge at a promotion-chasing Championship club next summer following his departure from Ipswich.

Leeds have also been linked with a move for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, who has been offered a new contract by the Tigers, and Northern Ireland goal-scoring winger Gavin Whyte, from Crusaders.

Southampton are considering a £20m move for central defender Ben Gibson after Middlesbrough’s failure to make the Championship play-off final.

Saints target: Boro's Ben Gibson, right.

Northern Irishman Grant McCann is interested in the head coach role at Bradford City after being sacked by Peterborough in February after 22 months in charge.

Huddersfield Town have appointed Olaf Rebbe as the club’s new sporting director.

The 40-year-old German joins the Terriers from Wolfsburg, where he held a similar position, and will work closely with head coach David Wagner and report to the board on the recruitment of players and the monitoring of football operations. He was linked with a move to Tottenham in a similar role last season.
