The Terriers will bank a guaranteed £10m from the former England Under-21s international’s switch to the Championship club.

A further £2m could also be paid by the Potters in add-ons to shatter the previous club record sale, the £8m that Blackburn Rovers paid for Jordan Rhodes in 2012.

“Incey got a lot of game time for us last season and played a big role in helping us to achieve our aim of staying in the Premier League,” said Wagner about the 26-year-old. “The value of this deal made sense for us.

“Tom is a good player, but I am comfortable that we have good options in the wide positions.”

Ince cost Town an initial £7.25m when he signed from Derby County last summer. He made 33 Premier League appearances and scored twice as Wagner’s men beat the odds to stay up.

His stoppage-time strike against Watford in what proved to be Huddersfield’s final victory of the season means the one-time Hull City man leaves with grateful thanks from the club’s fans.

Town, meanwhile, are back in action tonight against French club Lyon at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Neither Danny Williams nor new signing Erik Durm will feature as the club continue to manage the duo’s recovery from an injury-plagued 2017-18.

Williams missed the final three months with a knee problems,.

Meanwhile a succession of injuries prevented Germany international full-back Durm from playing a single game for Borussia Dortmund. Wagner will also be without Juninho Bacuna, the £2m capture from Groningen not having trained with the first team since twisting his knee in the July 10 win over Bury. Adama Diakhaby, an £8m capture from Monaco, should feature.
