Yorkshire rivals Bradford City and Barnsley handed early EFL Trophy derby date

Barnsley and Bradford City will face each other in the group stage of this season's competition.

The Yorkshire duo have been drawn in Group F along with Oldham Athletic, while the identity of the Academy team will be revealed on Wednesday.

Sixteen Premier League and Championship clubs have entered Under-21s teams in the Checkatrade Trophy this term.

In the regional draw, Doncaster Rovers have been placed in Group G along with Grimsby Town, Notts County. Like Bradford and Barnsley, Rovers will also face an Academy team from either Everton, Leicester, Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Stoke, West Brom or Wolves.

The group stage begins in early September and all clubs from Leagues One and Two will play two of their three games at home.
