Take Cover aimed at World Cup meeting in Dubai

SOUTH YORKSHIRE sprinter Take Cover is destined for Dubai after the David Griffiths-trained veteran's eyecatching comeback run at Lingfield.

Despite being compromised by a wide draw, the nine-year-old battled gamely in the Hever Sprint Stakes under St Leger-winning jockey Andrea Atzeni and was only narrowly denied by race winner Lightscameraaction.

Now the winner of £240,000 in career earnings, including landmark triumphs at both York and Glorious Goodwood, Bawtry-based Griffiths is planning a tilt at Meydan’s Al Quoz Sprint later this month as part of the Dubai World Cup card – the world’s richest race meeting.

“I was chuffed to bits with him and he had a nice enough blow afterwards. He’ll come on for the run, but he ran a cracker, especially from a wide draw,” said Griffiths.

“In fairness, the winner has been on the go all winter and was probably the fittest horse in the race, but we were pleased with our lad. I think the flat five furlongs at Meydan will suit him.”
