Yorkshire golf: Club-mates Sam Bairstow and Freddie Parlby come out on top at Lindrick GC

HALLOWES GC enjoyed double success in the Danny Willett Trophy at Lindrick GC, the first of the Pete Cowen Golf Academy Junior Tour events for 2016.

Sam Bairstow produced a 72 to win the best gross section while Freddie Parlby - Cowen's grandson - triumphed in the gross section with a 62 playing off 23.

Luke Palmowski (HickletonGC) finished second behind Bairstow, just two shots back, while Jake Causier (Doncaster GC) placed third with a 75 after a back-nine count back.

Parlby's winning margin was also two, from Doncaster GC's Declan Stoppard (84-20-64) while Hallamshire GC's Loui Hinchliffe (83-15-68) came in third.

Joe Allenby (Hessle GC) produced the longest drive of the day and Hinchliffe complemented his third place in the net section with nearest the pin at the sixth.

The scores were excellent in cold and windy conditions, and the series moves on to Rotherham GC on May 31.

Drax GC players took to the course at the weekend to experience the club's new layout, designed to improve the flow of play.

It certainly helped with the flow of Drax through to the next round of the Mail on Sunday Classic as they hosted, and defeated, Boothferry GC in the third round.

It was a very close encounter, the score finishing at 2.5pts each and requiring a sudden-death play-off, in which Adrian Craven sunk a tough birdie putt on the 19th to claim victory for his side.

Drax’s seniors also got off to a winning start to the season. They were one of seven guest teams at Beverley GC and won six of their eight matches.

Lees Hall GC's ladies' ADP team won their first match of the season, defeating Howley Hall GC thanks to wins for Jane Hardy and Rachael Von Graevenitz.
