Yorkshire golf - club news: Ian Lightbody puts in a winter's work and wins by just a point at West Bradford GC

IAN LIGHTBODY, Ian Peirson and Peter Mungovin all remained tied on 197 points after the final competition in the Seniors' Winter League series at West Bradford GC.

And the trio were only separated by a single point after a tie-break method involving taking an aggregate of each player's best four scores.

Lightbody eventually emerged the winner, totalling 161pts, with Peirson and Mungovin both on 160.

Seniors' captain Paul Winter commented: "It was the last day of the Winter League and you could see by their faces that the main contenders were looking rather tense before teeing off.

"They were all quieter than usual and when the captain told them that mats were no longer in use some of the players looked disappointed.

"The Winter League has been very competitive and on this final day four players were in with a realistic chance of winning and two others had an outside chance."

Bill Green continued the consistent form he has shown in the last three events to win on the day with 39pts.

Peter Leskovac was second a point back, one ahead of Peter Mungovin, who in turn placed one point in front of Colin Hayhurst.

Winter added: "Thank you to all the seniors who turned up week after week and made our Winter League such an exciting event."Well done, Ian, and congratulations also to Peter and Ian, who ran him very close."
