Yorkshire golf: Curtis Cup player Rochelle Morris given Honorary Membership by YLCGA

WOODSOME HALL'S Rochelle Morris has been given Honorary Membership of the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association ahead of her involvement in this week's Curtis Cup.

Morris is currently in Ireland as part of the Great Britain & Ireland team that will face the USA in the 39th Curtis Cup at Dun Laoghaire GC, near Dublin, from this coming Friday through to Sunday.

The former Yorkshire champion was named in captain Elaine Farquharson-Black's team back in April.

Morris was runner-up in two national championships last year - the English Women’s Amateur Championship at Hunstanton and the English Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship at St Anne’s Old Links. She was also second qualifier for the English women’s open match play at Trentham.

After several near misses, being picked for GB&I to play in the Curtis Cup - the pinnacle of women's amateur golf - and honoured by her county association will buoy her as she looks to make a breakthrough by lifting a national title.

Three of her team-mates this week have experience in the biennial transatlantic women's amateur international contest in world No 1 Leona Maguire (Ireland), English champion Bronte Law and Charlotte Thomas, also of England.

Morris is a Curtis Cup debutant, as is Maria Dunne (Skerries), Alice Hewson (Berkhamsted), Meghan MacLaren (Wellingborough) and Olivia Mehaffey (Royal County Down Ladies).

Captain Farquharson-Black (Deeside), an Aberdeen solicitor, played in the 1990 and 1992 Curtis Cup matches.
