Yorkshire golf: Garforth denied second 8 to 15 League win on the spin by doughty Scarcroft

This week they followed their 7-2 Division One home win over Headingley with a draw away at Scarcroft to gain an away bonus point.

Old rivalries were renewed on a beautiful evening and the first game off saw the League's chairman Derek Fryer and his partner Tony from Scarcroft up against League vice chairman Paul Wray and Garforth club captain John Dexter.

A great match was eventually won by the visitors, but former Garforth member Kevin Fretwell and Mark Squires beat Paul Claricoates and Richard McNally to square the tie.

Garforth’s in-form pair David Mosely and Andy Vowles took the spoils again in match three, but once more the hosts hit back, the visitors' Chris Duggan and late replacement Mick Fisher going down to defeat.

Horsforth led Division One going in to week five on 28pts, six clear of second-placed Scarthingwell and eight in front of Moor Allerton.

Division Two was a lot tighter ahead of week five's fixtures, with Wetherby just a point ahead of Leeds with 20.

Calverley's second board competition of the season, the Covey Shield, was won by Macy Park with a net 48.

Four points back in second place was Matty Harwood while defending champion Archie Rowntree took third on count back from Holly Rowntree with a net 54.

Calverley'sjunior development team enjoyed a cleansweep against Bingley St Ives winning 6-0. Jamie Brown battled back from three down to win two up, Holly Rowntree triumphed 5&3and Macy Park won 7&6.

York's Captain's Day, which helped raise money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity, was won with a net 69 by Mel Barker.

Nearest the pin on the 13th was John Place and nearest the pin in two on the ninth was Craig Evans.

Hillsborough will stage their Pro-Am on Monda, July 25. The normal cost for the day is £210 for a team of four including a professional, but anyone who enters via the Golf Lesson Sheffield website will pay only £150.

Oakdale's men's monthly medal saw Simon Daly with the Division One category with a net 67.

Barry Light triumphed in Division Two with a net 71 and Mark Bristow in Division Three with a net 66.
