Yorkshire golf: Howley Hall-Hallowes pairing win Woodsome Hall Scratch Foursomes

CHALLENGE Tour player Marcus Armitage, of Howley Hall, and Hallowes' Scott Campbell shot a six-under-par 134 total to win the Woodsome Hall Scratch Foursomes.

They carded rounds of 66 68 to finish two clear of runners-up Joe Dean, the English men's amateur champion, from Hillsborough, and Lindrick's Bailey Gill.

Dean, now a professional, and Welsh Open Youths champion Gill returned 69 67 for their four-under total.

The 36 hole am-am winners were Sam Bridges and Elliot Lister, of Bradley Hall, with 148 (75 73).

Huddersfield's Nick Marsh - Dean's predecessor as English men's amateur champion - teamed with Michael Major (Dubai Creek) to win the prize for best afternoon score with 69.

The annual event, sponsored by Huddersfield Audi, was organised by long-serving Woodsome Hall member and scratch team player Matthew Broadbent and the prizes were presented by the club's captain James Crowther.

East Riding's Scratch League sees Hull hold a three-point lead over Hessle A at the top of Division One.

Scarborough North Cliff's lead over Brough in Division Two is just half a point while Hornsea B head Boothferry by one a a half in Division Three.

Home advantage ruled with not a single away victory in the latest round of Lawrence Batley Seniors League matches.

Four visiting teams did manage to draw , a useful result at this stage of the season with nine round now played.

Woodsome Hall edged ahead in Section A with a sound 6-2 home win over South Bradford, although Crosland Heath kept in touch by sharing the points at Halifax.

Marsden and Bradford Moor both had big victories - 7-1 over Calverley and 8-0 over West Bradford respectively - to complete the top half of the table.

Silkstone crept to the top in Section B despite a 5-3 defeat at West End, helped by the postponement of Crow Nest Park’s fixture at Outlane.

West End remain handily placed, as do Branshaw (7-1 winners over Todmorden) and Hebden Bridge f(7-1 winners o0ver Elland).

A cluster of close matches in Section C resulted in Hanging Heaton - who have played an additional match - opening up a 10-point gap over Ryburn, Oldham and Werneth.

Section D promises an exciting finish. Blackley’s 8-0 home win over South Leeds moved them to within a point of leaders Huddersfield, who drew at Lightcliffe.

Blackley have a fixture in hand but four of their five remaining matches are away from home.

Low Laithes had a cracking 7-1 home win over Bradley Hall while Wortley reversed the 8-0 defeat they had suffered earlier in the season at Queensbury.
