Yorkshire golf: Howley Hall's Becki O'Grady shows her mettle with persimmon-headed wood

Becki O'Grady prepares to drive in as lady captain at Howley Hall GC with a persimmon-headed wood.

BECKI O'GRADY took a step back in time when she used a persimmon wood to drive in as lady captain ofÂ Howley Hall GC.

It had been loaned to her by Ryan Rastall, the club's head teaching professional.

"What an afternoon. My captain's drive in @HowleyGC went well with lots of members there supporting me," she commented on Twitter."Highlight of my drive in was hitting a persimmon driver which @RRastall @JWhitaker_Golf lent me."

Thirty-six-year-old O'Grady, a five-handicapper, has been a member at the club since she was 16.

A healthy gathering of lady members was present at Howley Hall to see new lady captain Becki O'Grady drive in.

She represented Yorkshire as a junior and at senior level, and still plays for the Yorkshire Mid Ams team.

As a 17-year-old, she represented England and past championship successes have included winning the Northern Girls' and Nottingham Girls' titles.

Members at Howley Hall will all be familiar with her club achievements as she has her name on each of the ladies' trophies.

Rastall commented: "Great turnout and great shot too, Becki."

Becki O'Grady drives in as 2016 lady captain at Howley Hall GC.

Her chosen charity for 2016 is Diabetes UK as her sister was diagnosed with Type 1 in 2007.

"Helen suffered with difficulties in the early stages of diagnosis and with the help of Diabetes she now lives a healthy lifestyle," said O'Grady..

One of O'Grady's first duties as lady captain was to lead the team in the Mail on Sunday competition, and Howley Hall defeated Hanging Heaton 3-2.
