Tuition will be provided by PGA professional Matthew Conner, and lessons will be taken as groups of up to 10 people. Equipment wil be provided.

In addition, from April, the club will be offering three-month trial memberships to new members for just £160.

Richard Carr, manager of Kirkbymoorside GC, said: “It’s important that we encourage new people to take up golf – it’s a wonderful sport that encourages physical activity and skill, but which can also be very peaceful and tranquil, especially on our course at Kirkbymoorside. Ideal for stress relieving.

"People can be put off by misconceptions, thinking they can only join a golf club if they’ve got a certain level of expertise, yet not knowing how to get the training they need.

"The Get into Golf initiative is a great way to give people the chance to learn some useful techniques and to see how much they enjoy it. We then wanted to offer the three-month trial memberships so people can extend that, and gain additional experience. It would make a great idea for a gift.”
