The all-conquering Moortown GC ladies were not surprised to place second behind Leeds Rhinos rugby league team, who won an astonishing treble last year of Challenge Cup, Leaders Shield and Grand Final titles.

But in Sue Rogerson’s year as captain, Moortown won no fewer than five championships and their nomination in the YCA sports category was well deserved.

Moortown began 2015 by winning the North Leeds Ladies Golf Association’s winter foursomes trophy.

The Leeds Evening League title was next to fall to them, and success in three YLCGA competitions – the A and B team finals and Scratch Division 2 qualifier - followed, the latter earning them the Sue Johnson Trophy and promotion into Division 1.

The section’s three team captains – Didi Powers (Scratch), Beverley Burrows (A) and Maire McCarthy (B) – along with Evening League organiser Susan Mannion and winter foursomes team organiser Christine Mannion were responsible for the team selection that proved so successful.

Already they have taken the first step towards emulating last season's feats by retaining the Leeds Winter Alliance title.

In the final meeting, at Leeds GC, they secured the trophy for the third season in a row.

Starting play in third place with only 10 points, behind Headingley (12) and Alwoodley (20), Moortown pulled out all the stops to take first, second and third places, courtesy of Karen Duffield and Liz Milner, Beryl Pickering and Vicky Renny, and Susan and Patsy Mannion.

This added 15pts to Moortown’s eclectic score and saw them beat Alwoodley into second place with five points to spare.
