The senior international was five under par for his final 10 holes, finishing the tournament on three under.

Yorkshire's seniors champion had been level par after 36 holes and two off the pace, and then after eight holes of the final round had fallen further back by dropping two more shots.

However, a three-putt for bogey on eight stung him into action and he birdied nine, 11, 13, 15 and 17 for a closing 67.

“It was nice to do that,” said East, whose win brought him his first Scottish title.

He joined the senior ranks in 2014 and has also won the Spanish, English and Portuguese senior championships.

East also topped the England Golf senior order of merit in his debut year.

He adds those titles to earlier wins in the English (three times), British, Portuguese, European and French mid-amateur championships.
