Huddersfield GC's Marsh, who was second overnight in the 36-hole event, added a second consecutive 69 to win £300 as the top qualifier.

Thirty two men will head to Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire for next week's Final Stage, including nine other Yorkshire representatives.

Hillsborough GC's Joe Dean (72 71) - who succeeded Marsh as English champion last year - moves on with a cheque for £175 after placing third in Cheshire, while 2014 White Rose champion Julian Taylor (York) finished fifth, having improved on his first-round 76 by no fewer than eight strokes.

Marsh's day began on the 10th hole and dropped shots at 12 and 16 put him back to one under for the tournament.

However, he began his second nine in stunning style as he followed an eagle at the first with a birdie at the second.

A dropped shot at five was instantly retrieved at the next, and he closed the nine as he had begun it, with an eagle three to finish six under for the two rounds and two clear of the field.

Dean mixed birdies and bogeys throughout the day, the former coming at holes one, six, eight, 10, 15 and 18 and the latter at seven, nine, 12, 13 and 16.

Taylor got the fast start he needed after his opening 76 as he birdied holes one and three. He dropped a shot at the start of his homeward run, but three birdies followed at the next four holes on his way to his 68.

Other Yorkshire players who will head for Frilford Heath are Joe Coyle (Burstwick Country Golf), 73 72; Isaac Simpson (Hallowes GC), 74 72; Adam Walker (Huddersfield GC), 75 72; David Woodhead (Hessle GC), 75 73; Aron Schnacke (Huddersfield GC), 73 76, and Niall Murphy (Oulton Hall), 75 74.

Mottram Hall was one of six First Stage qualifying venues, and the successful players from each will progress to play the Final Stage.

The field will play one round on each of the Red and Blue Courses next Wednesday and Thursday before a cut to the leading 80 players and ties for a final round on the Blue Course on Friday.

Players are competing to earn the highest possible category on the 2016 HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour. All those progressing to Final Stage will earn at least a category 14, with golfers making the Final Stage cut earning a minimum category 10 and the top 30 earning category 3.
