Yorkshire golf: Top qualifier Karen Jobling reaches last four of YVLGA championship at Ganton GC
The 131-strong field were competing for 16 places in the match play stage, and while those out in the morning faced blizzards of rain, hail, sleet and snow, conditions improved slightly as the day went on, albeit with strong winds persisting throughout a cold day.
Tracey Batty (Headingley GC) came in with the same score as Jobling - who placed third in the women’s Grand Medal Final at Frilford Heath GC in Oxfordshire last year - but lost out on count back.

Jobling went on to make it through to Thursday's semi-finals, beating Patsy Rochester (Oakdale GC) 8&7 and Northern Foursomes champion Judy Butler (Malton & Norton GC) 3&2. Butler had beaten Oakdale's Penny Baxter 6&4 in round one.
In today's semi-finals Jobling will face reigning Yorkshire veterans champion Julie Wheeldon, of Wakefield GC.
Wheeldon saw off Otley GC's Morag Wilkinson 5&3 before getting the better of Christine Hinchcliffe (Sand Moor GC) 7&6 in the quarter-finals. Hinchcliffe had defeated Linda Ireland (Shipley GC) 6&5 to reach the last eight.

Wrightson, England senior women's captain, defeated Morag Ross (Alwoodley GC) 5&3 and the host club's Jo Davy 6&5, first-round conqueror of Delyse Wadkin (Sand Moor) 5&4.
Simpson, who partnered club-mate Butler to the Northern Foursomes title, was a 7&6 winner against Penny Hepworth, also of host club Ganton, before ending the hopes of Batty in the last eight, one up - the same score by which Batty had earned her quarter-final place in defeating Laraine Hague, another Ganton competitor.
