Yorkshire golf: Under-threat Bradley Park GC receives England Golf accolade

An 18-hole parkland course in Huddersfield, Bradley Park is backing the drive to grow the game and offers golfers, established or beginner, a traditional 18-hole course, 9-hole par-3 course, and practice facilities that include a floodlit driving range. It also has Footgolf facilities.

The only public course in Kirklees has just received the GolfMark award, an official seal of approval for clubs that successfully work to develop the game.

Bradley Park achieved distinction in attracting new members and encouraging existing members to play more; using practical business planning to develop the club; offering coaching and playing opportunities for all golfers; and ensuring safeguarding policies are in place.

Bradley Park offers group and individual coaching, the Get into Golf initiative and a Junior Academy.

Linda Bemrose, Bradley Park's Junior Organiser, who led the club’s push for the GolfMark award, said: “Bradley Park is a great club; it’s very friendly, welcoming and forward-thinking.

"This award helps us to spread that message and to tell people that children are safe and secure here and that we understand about beginner golfers.”

The award was presented to Bradley Park by Emily Cheshire, the County Development Officer for the Yorkshire Golf Development Group, which works to grow the game.

She said: “I’m delighted that Bradley Park has achieved GolfMark and that its efforts to grow the game can be recognised locally and nationally. Bradley Park is an extremely welcoming and friendly club, and I would urge anyone, golfer or not, to go and try out the game there."

Unfortunately, the shadow remains over Bradley Park's future as its 120-acre site has been identified by Kirklees Council as a potential site for over 2,000 new houses.
