Yorkshire golf: YLCGA urging clubs to back Moortown Ladies as they tackle Leeds Rhinos and fight an Olympic boxing champion

Hide AdBut Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association captain Dawn Clegg has recognised the calibre of opposition Moortown face having been nominated in the sport category of the Yorkshire Choice Awards, a charity award recognising local people that have been an inspiration in their field.
Clegg has sent an impassioned plea to clubs urging their members to vote for Moortown.
“As many of you will know, Moortown Ladies had a very successful year in 2015,” she said. “They have been nominated in the sport category of the Yorkshire Choice Awards...and are in competition with people like Leeds Rhinos and Nicola Adams, so they really do need you all to rally and vote for them.

Hide Ad“We at the YLCGA think it is great publicity for the sport that we all know and love. Please help us by casting your vote; it will only take two minutes of your time.”
People can vote for th eladies of Moortown by visiting the web site www.yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk, clicking on the sporting achievement category and choosing Moortown Ladies.
“Please note that only one vote will be accepted per IP address,” continued Clegg, “so please ask all your ladies to go home and vote. Votes need to be in by the end of February.

Hide AdRogerson’s year as captain began with Moortown winning the North Leeds Ladies Golf Association’s winter foursomes trophy.
The Leeds Evening League title followed as did three YLCGA competitions – the A and B team finals and Scratch Division 2 qualifier - the latter earning them the Sue Johnson Trophy and promotion into Division 1.
“We can’t recall a season like this,” said Rogerson. “In 2014 we won the A team final, but we can’t remember the last success with the B team.”

Hide AdThe section’s three team captains – Didi Powers (Scratch), Beverley Burrows (A) and Maire McCarthy (B) – along with Evening League organiser Susan Mannion and winter foursomes team organiser Christine Mannion were responsible for the team selection that proved so successful.
