Frank Turner and Bowling for Soup: Crowd surfing and circle pits as two punk giants perform at Halifax's Piece Hall

The Piece Hall was bouncing in the rain last night as two punk favourites joined forces for a double-headliner show.

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls and long-term friends Bowling For Soup gave the Halifax crowd a rip-roaring show featuring crowd surfing, circle pits and fireworks.

Leaping onto the stage and straight into I Still Believe Frank & The Sleeping Shows played a joyful, spirit-lifting set including Photosynthesis, 1933, Recovery and Four Simple Words.

Frank told the crowd: “The last time I played Halifax was in 2006, to about 20 people in a pub down the road. I'm sorry it took me 20 years, but we're back—and look at this place.”

He urged fans to support grassroots music venues and gave a special shout out to Huddersfield’s Parish.

Bowling For Soup closed out the night with jokes and hits galore, opening with Almost before tearing through crowd favourites High School Never Ends, Ohio (Come Back to Texas) and Today Is Gonna Be A Great Day — also known as the theme song to Disney's Phineas and Ferb.

Opening the evening were alternative rockers American Hi-Fi.

Live at The Piece Hall continues on Saturday with James Arthur, followed by David Gray on Sunday and Deacon Blue’s two shows on Wednesday and Thursday.

There are also still many more shows to come before the end of August.
