Leeds concert season

With 16 different orchestras, 19 conductors and 30 soloists, the 20 programmes concentrate on the most popular classics, with just the younger generation of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain opting for something different with South American music by Marquez and Revueltas (April 8).

Discounts also cover your own choice of concerts, so why not start with the famous Russian orchestra, the Tchaikovsky Symphony, playing Borodin, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky (October 8), followed by London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with the 2015 winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition, Anna Tsybuleva, playing Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto (October 15).

Jump a month to November 19 to take in the Czech National Symphony Orchestra with their conductor, Libor Pesek, a once familiar face with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra who appear with their new firebrand conductor, Vasily Petrenko (January 21). You must not miss the world famous St Petersburg Philharmonic in an all-Russian evening (January 28), and why not include the Vienna Tonkunstler (February 25) before ending your season with the two Leeds choruses combining in Verdi’s Requiem (May 20).
