Leeds Dance Open Day - featuring more than 50 free events - will celebrate Leeds as one of the UK’s leading cities for dance.

It will feature thrilling live performances; cutting edge dance films; chances to dance including a silent disco, street dance, ballet and flamenco workshops; children’s sessions; plus backstage tours and talks.

Leeds Dance Partnership (LDP) are behind the event, their first city-wide open day, to take place on Sunday, September 19, 11am to 4pm.

Leading dance venues in the region taking part include Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds Playhouse and Yorkshire Dance.

Most events will take place in Quarry Hill, with a free bus available to Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Chapeltown.

LDP is made up of six major dance organisations, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Playhouse, Northern Ballet, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Yorkshire Dance, plus a representative of the independent dance sector, João Maio.

It hopes to encourage more people to get involved in all the different opportunities the city has to offer.

Leeds is home to internationally acclaimed dance companies, the only dance conservatoire outside of London, major universities and a wealth of independent artists who make work for national and international touring and deliver high quality engagement work in communities across the city.

LDP works to support, promote and unite dance organisations in and around Leeds to put a global spotlight on the city’s dance ecology combined with a commitment to driving diversity, ambition, skill, talent, export and research.
