An extraordinary accident, which caused the death of a Pudsey schoolmistress, Miss Mary Redick, aged 60 years, late of 19, Thorpe Road, was investigated yesterday by Mr E.H. Hill, West Riding District Coroner, and a jury.
The evidence showed that the deceased, who was of very stature, stood on a drawer in order to reach a bodice from the top of a wardrobe in her bedroom. This caused the wardrobe to over-balance, and fall upon her. She was found by neighbours lying on the floor, pinned down by the wardrobe.

Hide AdThe Coroner remarked on the dangerous practice of standing drawer as in this case.
The Foreman of the jury said the jury had examined the room and the wardrobe, and they found the floor sloped from the wall, and there was no wonder the wardrobe fell as described.
Dr Anderson, of Stanningley, stated that the cause of death was internal injury, caused by the accident, and the jury returned a verdict of “Died from injuries accidentally caused by pulling a wardrobe on to herself.”
