Except during the actual showing of films, there will be less light in cinemas from Saturday next.
The Cinema Exhibitors Association have sent detailed “save fuel” instructions to 4,300 cinemas ail over Britain. Cinema patrons will find much less light not only in foyers and entrance vestibules but also in the auditoriums at
“lights up “ periods.

Hide AdThis action has been taken the Association to help the fuel economy campaign of the Ministry of Fuel and Power. It is estimated that the saving effected by the new instructions will amount to about 5 per cent of the total fuel consumption in the cinemas.
School Opening During the Holidays
Is there any need for the schools to kept open with the staff attendance during the holiday month of August?
The Director of Education for Leeds, Mr. George Guest, said yesterday that it was too early yet to settle this question.
He added, “At the secondary schools the holiday has been cut by a fortnight. The present term takes the last week of July, and the next term the first in September. Boys and girls are expected to attend unless they are doing work of national Importance.
