Preview: Though Bubble

There will be a distinct whiff of rock n' roll at this year's Thought Bubble in Leeds. The UK's largest comic book festival is entering its second decade, by bringing Gerard Way to the event.

The former frontman of My Chemical Romance, who quit music to launch his own popular comic book series The Umbrella Academy, is currently working on Young Animal, an imprint of DC Comics.

Fans will have the chance to put their questions to Way as he takes part in Comics in Conversation and other panels events throughout the five day-long convention weekend.

Taking place from September 18 to 22, Thought Bubble will feature 400 leading artists and writers from all over the world, showcasing. Big names from the comic art world include Brian K Vaughan, the award-winning writer of Saga, Y: The Last Man and The Private Eye, Kieron Gillen, a UK writer who is best known for his work on Phonogram and The Wicked + The Divine, and Charlie Adlard, the pencil illustrator for The Walking Dead comic series.

“We wanted to make sure that there is something for everyone and we hope that this packed programme does just that,” says festival director Lisa Wood. “We’ve secured some fantastic artists, and it just goes to show that Leeds is a huge attraction to comic artists all over the world.”

Previously based in the Royal Armouries, this year the event will take over various venues in the heart of Leeds city centre.
