Police are hunting burglars who targeted the home of an elderly couple in Beverley.

Humberside Police today released details of the burglary on April 13 as they appealed for help in identifying the men responsible.

They said a 98-year-old man was in the garden of his home in Sigston Road that day when he was approached by two men at around 11am.

The pair asked if he would like some painting done and he declined.

However, one of the men entered the couple's home, walked past the victim's 96-year-old wife and left the property a short time later.

The woman then discovered that £250 had been stolen from her handbag.

Both men then left the area in a small white van which was parked outside the address and drove off.

The first suspect is described as white, slim, between 5ft 7in and 5ft 8in, and aged 25 to 30 years old. He was wearing a blue coat and a woolly hat.

The second was white, of medium build, 5ft 9in and aged between 35 and 40 years old. He wore a blue hooded top with the hood pulled up.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who can help identify the men are urged to call 101, quoting crime reference number 2264328.
