Police are trying to trace the owners of several dogs seen attacking a wild fox.
The incident happened on the B1249 between Foxholes and Staxton Hill, near Scarborough.
Several motorists stopped at the roadside when they spotted the fox being mauled at around 1.40pm on Thursday.
Police are keen to speak to the witnesses, including the driver of a Sainsbury's van who is believed to have been the first to stop.
