Labour chooses Hull West candidate

HESSLE TOWN councillor Emma Hardy has been selected to be Labour's candidate in Hull West and Hessle following Alan Johnson's decision not to run.

Ms Hardy, a member of Labour’s national policy forum, was chosen ahead of David Prescott, the son of former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott, who was widely expected to be selected.

She said: “It is a huge honour to be selected as Labour’s candidate for my home seat – the place I love so much and care so deeply about.

“Alan Johnson has been an outstanding MP for our area, working tirelessly to deliver for people across our community.

“I want to thank him for all the work he has done for local people in his 20 years serving us.

“His are big shoes to fill but I’m determined to be the strong voice our area so badly needs after 7 years of damaging Tory cuts and failure.”

Mr Johnson had a majority of 9,333 in 2015.
