Full closure of the A64 near York and Air Ambulance called after serious crash

There was a full closure in place on the A64 near York after a serious crash.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed at 12.20pm that the closure was in place on both directions of the A64 between the Fulford and Tadcaster Road junction.

This was to allow the Air Ambulance to land.

National Highways said: "The A64 near York is closed in both directions between the A19 (Fulford) and A1036 (Tadcaster Road) following a serious collision.

"North Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance service are at the scene. National Highway Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management. At this stage it is not know how long the road will be closed for however it is anticipated it will remain closed for a number of hours whilst police conduct their investigations.

"Traffic is being diverted via local routes in both directions.

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey. "

12.40pm update: The Westbound carriageway is now open following this incident.

Traffic in the area remains heavy in both directions, North Yorkshie Police said.

1pm update:

National Highways said: "The Eastbound carriageway is now OPEN with Lane 2 (of 2) still closed for barrier assessment and vehicle recovery on the A64 near York following the earlier collision."

1.40pm update:

National Highways said: "All lanes are now open on the A64 Eastbound carriageway near #York following the earlier collision. There are residual delays of 10 mins with 1 miles of congestion on approach. Thank you for your patience."
