The Reds’ first home game is also a tough one, against Nigel Pearson’s Derby on August 13 and they end August with two Yorkshire derbies - at Huddersfield Town on August 27 and at home to Rotherham United seven days later.

The marquee home game with Aston Villa is on a midweek, on September 27 followed by a home derby at Leeds United on October 1.

A big home fixture arrives later on in October, when Newcastle United visit on October 18 and Heckingbottom’s side end the season at St James’ park on May 7.

The Reds travel to Hillsborough on December 13 and host Blackburn on Boxing Day and Birmingham City on New Year’s Eve before starting 2017 at Nottingham Forest on January 2.

Barnsley host Leeds on January 21 - chief executive Ben Mansford’s first return to Oakwell - and travel to Rotherham seven days later.

Barnsley visit Villa Park for the first time in the league since 1987-88 on Valentine’s Day in another midweek game with Villa.

Sheffield Wednesday visit Oakwell on April 1.
