Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann fined for red card but escapes second touchline ban of season

Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has been fined £500 for improper behaviour in Friday's 2-1 win at Tranmere Rovers but has escaped a second touchline ban of the season.

The Rovers manager was sent off for stopping Tranmere taking a quick throw-in 41 minutes into the game. McCann later apologised and pleaded guilty to the charge.

Referee Benjamin Speedie was said to be "empathetic" about McCann's reaction, but felt he had no choice within the rules.

English referees are trying to clamp down on time-wasting this season, leading to stricter enforcement of the rules on kicking the ball away. Whilst players are regularly booked for that, managers are being handed red cards.

McCann has already been suspended this term for accumulating three yellow cards but will not have to sit out another game as a result of this indiscretion.
