HULL CITY head coach Mike Phelan insists he is not interested in proving a point to the man who dispensed with his services at Manchester United in David Moyes - ahead of tomorrow's '˜six-pointer' at Sunderland.

The Black Cats boss elected not to retain the services of long-serving Old Trafford assistant Phelan when he took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in May 2013 - ending Phelan’s 14 year association with United.

But Phelan, who was out of the game for six months before becoming first-team coach at Norwich, is adamant that he does not hold a grudge.

He said: “I have no point to prove. I had a fantastic career at Manchester United, both as a player and a coach and assistant manager.

I”t’s not for me to hold any grudges or anything like that. I was privileged. I certainly enjoyed my 18 years there overall, which is more than most people get.

I’m in a fortunate position. I’ve enjoyed my time and now it’s here.

“I have to bring that experience and expertise that was in abundance at Manchester United to a club like Hull. That’s what we are trying to do.”
