Cummins full of praise for Bradford side

Bradford coach Francis Cummins accepts the need for his crisis-torn club to undergo some short-term pain in the hope of obtaining some long-term gains.

Huddersfield showed no mercy on their troubled hosts as they cruised to a 66-18 Super League victory in front of Mandy Koukash, the wife of Salford owner Marwan who is hoping to buy the beleaguered Bulls.

Mrs Koukash has pledged to provide money for new signings if she is successful and top of her shopping list will be some front-row forwards.

The late withdrawal of Adam Sidlow through illness, allied to the unavailability of loan duo Greg Burke and Anthony Mullally and the departure of Garreth Carvell and Nick Scruton, left the Bulls with just one specialist prop alongside makeshift front rower Chev Walker and it showed.

“We knew it was going to be a tough day,” said Cummins. “The lads’ effort was great but, if you are going to go into a game with two props, especially against a team of literal Giants, then it’s going to be a tough day.

“They had more forwards on the bench than we did in our entire team. That meant our outside backs to do some extra work.

“We needed to be smarter but we were always going to struggle with the personnel.

“It’s tough at the moment but I’m really confident about those players, the people around the club and the supporters.

“We’re going to be okay. We need someone to take over this club and hopefully give us a little bit of back-up.

“It sounds like there’s a few consortiums in there,” added Cummins.
