FOR all their inconsistencies, Leeds Rhinos winger Tom Briscoe knows his former club Hull FC will be potent tonight as he makes a first return to the KC Stadium.

The England international scored 90 tries in 147 games for the Airlie Birds before moving to Headingley at the end of last season.

The decision has reaped instant dividends – Briscoe won the Challenge Cup with Leeds last month and is set for a tilt at Old Trafford – while disappointing Hull have slumped in at 12th ahead of their final game.

“They have been inconsistent and that’s the frustrating thing,” he said.

“When you ask any of the players – and I do keep in touch with them – they say how one week they could win with a good performance and then a week later they don’t quite turn up and get turned over.

“It’s very frustrating and it was similar when I played there. They all want to put in the big display, but somehow it just doesn’t come off.

“I know they like to raise their game against Leeds, though, and especially given it’s the last game of their season so they’ll come out firing and want to put in performance like they did in the derby win over Hull KR.”

Leeds, of course, currently have their own problems.

The 21-6 loss at Wigan last Friday was a fourth successive Super League defeat and they know they cannot now improve on sixth ahead of the play-offs starting next week.

“We made some silly errors last week giving away too much ball,” added the Featherstone-born 24-year-old. “At the start of the second half we showed what we’re about and had a real dig but then we made too many errors.

“There’s spirit and toughness in this side, though, and most of our defeats have only been by narrow margins.

“We’ve looked to fix some of those mistakes up and now we want to go to Hull and get on a bit of a roll into the play-offs.

“I’m really looking forward to going back there; I couldn’t have waited any longer it being the last day of season.”
