Ireland international Grix, 32, is thought to be in line to get the nod for Sunday’s Super League opener against Hull FC, having rejoined the club following seven years at Huddersfield Giants.

Granted, academy product Jowitt was a big hit last season, making 24 first-team appearances for Chris Chester’s side and showing real signs of potential.

Grix, though, believes the exciting youngster has a bright future and hopes to aid his progress.

“It has not been an issue for him, me coming in. Ultimately, we spend that much time together we are mates and we want each other and the team to do well.

“I have no doubt he will be right on my back for a spot in this team so that will make us both better.

“I’ve always had somebody pushing me and always turned that into a decent friendship. I think it will be the same again.”

Grix, who last played at Belle Vue in 2008-09, is relishing lending his experience and added: “I’ve tried to do that for the last few years at Huddersfield, too.

“I’m trying to help the young kids here. It’s good to bounce off them and if I can teach them some new stuff over my time here, that’ll be great.”
