Doctor Who 2023 series: Bradford actor Michelle Greenidge, known for After Life and It’s a Sin, will be joining the Doctor Who cast with Eastenders legend Anita Dobson and David Tennant

Doctor Who will return later this year with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and introducing Bradford actor Michelle Greenidge.

In November 2023, there will be three Doctor Who specials episodes to coincide with its 60th anniversary with David Tennant returning as the Fourteenth Doctor. The next era of Doctor Ncuti Gatwa will take over the TARDIS as the Fifteenth Doctor, with his first episode airing over the festive period in 2023.

On January 20, 2023, BBC announced that Anita Dobson, famous for her role as Angie Watts from Eastenders, will be joining the cast. Bradford-born actor Michelle Greenidge, who is known for her roles in Ricky Gervais’s Netflix series After Life and the Channel 4 show It’s a Sin, starring Olly Alexander will also be guest starring in the new series.

David Tennant is not the only returning Doctor Who actor, as he will be joined by Catherine Tate as Donna, Jacqueline King will reprise her role as Donna’s mother Sylvia, as well as some other newcomers including Yasmin Finney and Neil Patrick Harris. The returning writer Russel T Davies said: “We wanted to give fans, friends and families a lovely little Christmas present - with a promise that 2023 will be a riot of Doctor Who goodness!”

Who is Michelle Greenidge and what are her previous credits?

Michelle was born in Bradford and has Jamaican roots.

She is known for her roles as Valerie in the Netflix black-comedy drama series After Life, Lola Okonedo Akimbo in the BBC Two comedy Mandy, PC Williams in the police comedy drama Code 404 and Rosa Babatunde in the Channel 4 TV drama It’s a Sin.

She also starred in two feature movies in 2022, My Happy Ending alongside Andi MacDowell and Netflix comedy drama The Art of Love.

She also played the role of Arabella’s mother in the BBC/HBO 2020 award winning black-comedy I May Destroy You. Other credits include Small Axe, Adult Material, Venom 2, Alex Rider and Grantchester.

She also started her career in theatre having played Trudy in Nine Night at the National Theatre and she won Best Supporting Female Actor at the inaugural Black British Theatre Awards in 2019 for the same role as well as being nominated for Best West End Debut category at the Stage Awards the year before.
