Peter Davison will now narrate The Yorkshire Vet instead of Christopher Timothy

Peter Davison, who played Tristan Farnon in the television adaptation of James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small stories, will take over from Christopher Timothy to narrate The Yorkshire Vet.

After providing the voice over for every episode of the Channel 5 show since it started in 2015, Mr Timothy, who starred as Herriot in the former BBC shows, will not be heard when the series returns tonight because he and his wife are self-isolating and he is unable to set up home recording facilities.

In 1980, Davison became the fifth Doctor Who lead, succeeding Tom Baker.

Mike Sinclair, series producer of The Yorkshire Vet at Leeds-based Daisybeck Studios, said: “We investigated various options to allow Christopher to continue narrating the series but it just wasn’t possible.

"Like Chris, we were all disappointed because his voice is such a recognisable part of show. But we totally understood his concerns – clearly there are much more important things than television right now.

"And once we knew that Chris couldn’t do it, there was only one man we wanted to step in.
