Crystal Peaks: B&M to open in former Wilko store in Sheffield shopping centre

Discount retailer B&M is to take over the former Wilko store in Sheffield’s Crystal Peaks shopping centre, it has been announced.

The two-storey unit has been empty since autumn, when it became one of hundreds of Wilko stores to close following the collapse of the company.

Shopping centre bosses have now revealed B&M will be opening in the space in “late summer” following a refit and refurbishment of the unit.

Centre manager Lee Greenwood said: “We are delighted that such an important and popular high street brand as B&M is coming to the heart of Crystal Peaks.

“B&M is just one more name to add to the list of major brands that call Crystal Peaks their home.

“Look out over the coming weeks for news on further openings that will continue to enhance our reputation as a major South Yorkshire shopping destination.”

Last month, B&M revealed its sales jumped by a tenth over the past year, as cost-conscious shoppers continued to hunt for deals.

The chain, which sells everything from household furniture and DIY products to cupboard staples and clothing, said it had a “relentless” focus on low prices for everyday products.

B&M opened 47 new stores across the UK last year as it continued its rapid expansion across the country.

It also acquired up to 51 store locations from rival retailer Wilko, which collapsed last year and was forced to shut its 400 UK shops and make almost all of its 12,500 workers redundant.
