Frontline MD’s big impression

A YORKSHIRE entrepreneur who is helping to catch criminals has received a major national award.

Lucy Nuttall, from Sheffield, has found a way of creating a footprint cast in minutes, which should make it easier to bring criminals to justice.

Ms Nuttall, the managing director of Frontline Forensics, has been selected as one of 30 rising stars of the manufacturing world by a panel of expert judges.

The Make it in Great Britain ‘30 under 30’ list features entrepreneurs from a wide variety of backgrounds. Ms Nuttall’s company is poised for rapid growth with help from Incub, the product incubator which has been established by Sheffield-based firm Gripple.

Ms Nuttall decided to become an entrepreneur after hearing her sister Claire, a scene of crime investigator, complain about delays in gathering footprint evidence.

With help from the experts at Incub, Ms Nuttall has devised a casting product called NuCAST180, which has been proven to capture a footprint cast in just four minutes.

The other ‘30 under 30’ rising star from Yorkshire is Alisdair Mercer from Surgical Innovations, which is based in Leeds. As the youngest manager at Surgical Innovations, Mr Mercer helped to develop the world’s first pretzel shaped organ and tissue retractor for the keyhole surgery market.

The ‘30 under 30’ will now go on to act as ambassadors for the Make it in Great Britain campaign, which aims to transform the image of manufacturing. The campaign will culminate in an exhibition at the Science Museum in London, which runs from July 24 to September 9.
