Leisure group buys caravan park

A CARAVAN park in East Yorkshire has been sold in one of the biggest deals for the sector this year.

Sand Le Mere Caravan Park, in Tunstall, near Withernsea, has been sold to Bridge Leisure Parks, backed by Kings Park Capital, for an undisclosed multi-million-pound sum. The site is 126 acres with 550 static caravan pitches.

Owner Anthony Ellis said: "We have laid a solid foundation for the future development of the Sand Le Mere Caravan Park but thought the time was right for another party to further progress the business."

Richard Moss, director of the parks team at Colliers in Leeds, which sold the site on behalf of Anthony and Fiona Ellis, said: "Because the site has suffered coastal erosion it was necessary to be able to move the park inland before a deal could be secured. Through our planning team, we were able to negotiate 'roll back' planning consent which made the ultimate sale price possible."

He added: "This is an incredibly complicated process that requires research and reporting on areas such as traffic impact, flood risk, ecology and socio-economic impact. Subsequently, we were able to secure planning permission for an extension into adjacent farmland."
