Major food and drink conference for York

BUDDING FOOD entrepreneurs will be offered the chance to hear from inspirational success stories in the sector at a major conference to be held in York next month.

Themed around the concept of “The Complete Journey of Food”, attendees will hear from the experts on how to enter supply chains and learn about the importance of research and development.

The event, organised by Make It York and jointly sponsored by E.ON and Harrowells Solicitors will take place on Wednesday September 28 at the Park Inn Hotel in York.

Levi Roots, founder of Reggae Reggae Sauce and the restaurant Levi Roots Caribbean Smokehouse who has added his support for the event said: “Yorkshire and York in particular is an emerging hub for artisan food producers and a great place to start and grow a food or drink business.”

York and its surrounding area is home to one of the largest concentrations of food and drink producers in the UK, ranging from multi-nationals to an ever growing number of specialist artisan makers and brewers. The birthplace of leading confectionery brands Terry’s and Rowntree, York is also home to the Nestlé Product Technology Centre.

Hosted by food and drink sector specialist, Chris Stott from KPMG attendees will hear from many experts in the food and drink industry, including Nestlé, Harrogate Spring, Rudgate Brewery and the Food & Drink Federation.

Food and drink has long been a focal point of Yorkshire’s economy, with the wider region home to two of the UK’s major supermarkets, Asda and Morrisons, whilst North Yorkshire based R&R Ice Cream is the third largest ice cream manufacturer in the world.
